SPEARMAN � J.L. Pierce, 86, died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Hansford Cemetery with the Rev. Blossom Matthews, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home of Spearman.
The prairie fountains ran dry on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011. James Lorenzo �J.L.� Pierce was born April 10, 1925, in Spearman. J.L. Spent his life building and repairing windmills on many Texas Panhandle ranches in the canyons and on the prairie. His wife and the mother of his five children, Jaunita Faus Pierce, and his beloved daughter, Jammie Dean Pierce, preceded him in death.
In Pampa, his youngest daughter, Rosa Pierce Roberts, and his grandchildren, Jessie Renae Roberts, Samuel A.J. Pierce-Roberts, Brandy Roberts (Antonio) and his great-grandchildren, Destiny, Adrian and Natalie, cared for J.L. His youngest son, James Tylan Pierce and wife Mendy and children Whitney, Garrett and Dakota lived close by in McLean and assisted with J.L.�s care.
J.L.�s oldest son, Lynn Diaz �L.D.,� the family genealogist, lives in Gage, Okla. His eldest daughter, Karon Pierce Hardy and his cherished son-in-law, Ulysses Quincy Hardy live in Virginia, as well as his first grandchild, Shameka Nicole Hardy of Hampton. His eldest grandson, Derek Quincy Hardy lives in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, with his wife, Danae Herenandez Rodriguez, and newborn daughter, Dahlia Nicole Hardy Rodriguez. J.L. leaves behind a wonderful group of other relatives and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Rosa Pierce Roberts of Pampa and Karon Pierce Hardy and husband Ulysses Quincy of Virginia; two sons, James Tylan Pierce and wife Mendy of McLean and Lynn �L.D.� Diaz Pierce of Gage, Okla.; five grandaughters, Jessie Renae Roberts, Brandy Roberts and husband Antonio, both of Pampa, Whitney Hawkins and Dakota Hawkins, both of McLean; three grandsons, Samuel �A.J.� Pierce-Roberts of Pampa, Garrett Hawkins of McLean and Derek Quincy Hardy and wife Danae Hernandez Rodriguez of Bayamon, Puarto Rico; and four great-grandchildren, Destiny, Adrian and Natalie Roberts of Pampa and Dahlia Nicole Rodriguez of Bayamon.
Viewing will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Family and friends are invited to gather for lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Union Church in Spearman.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Pampa Meals on Wheels, P.O. Box 939, Pampa, TX 79056; or a charity of choice.
